Barrier Free Access

Disabled parking facilities are designated at both MCPL-Centereach and MCPL-Selden. You must have a disabled sticker visibly displayed on your automobile. MCPL-Centereach is equipped with easy access walks, TDD/TTY, a sliding entrance door, barrier free rest rooms and an elevator to transport you to the upstairs and downstairs book stacks. A Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) reader magnifies print from 3x to 60x. A special carrel for disabled use is located in the Adult Services Department.

MCPL-Selden has an access ramp to the Reading Room entrance. The outside entry to the Meeting Room area is barrier free. Rest rooms are equipped for persons with a wheelchair.

Computers & Typewriters

Computers are available at MCPL-Centereach during regular library hours. Computers at MCPL-Selden are available for use during scheduled times in the Computer Place. Typewriters are available at both buildings. The Adult and Children’s Departments each have Internet access computers for patron use.

Computers are also available in the Children’s Services Department for recreational, educational and word processing programs. This area also includes general and specialized multi-media encyclopedias in CD ROM format, computerized indexes and full text articles. The Early Childhood Area has learning games with easy picture menus for preschoolers and their parents.

Displays & Exhibits

MCPL-Centereach has exhibits of cultural, artistic and informational interest. Displays are housed in glass cases in the lobby and in the Museum Corner in the Children’s Department. A gallery for artistic work is located in the Main Meeting Room of MCPL-Centereach.

Homebound Library Service

MCPL provides borrowing privileges via US Mail Postal Authority for residents who have a physical disability that prevents them from visiting the library and are homebound. To be eligible you must have a valid library card and submit an application. Simply call 585-9393 ext. 213 to request materials. Patrons who are part of the Homebound Library Services are granted extended loan periods.  Click here for Homebound Library Services Application.  The completed application can be submitted at either branch or mailed to MCPL-Centereach.

Meeting Rooms

We have meeting rooms available for use by community groups free of charge. Our Community Room at MCPL-Centereach and our Main Meeting Room at MCPL-Selden are for large groups. MCPL-Selden has three Small Conference Rooms for smaller groups. Application forms for use of the meeting rooms are available at the Reference Desk. The application form lists regulations for use.

Photocopiers

MCPL-Centereach has photocopy machines located in both the Adult and Children’s Services Departments. MCPL-Selden has one photocopier. The fee is 10 cents per copy. A color copier is available at MCPL-Centereach. The fee is $1.00 per copy. If you have multiple copies to duplicate, ask for assistance at the Reference Desk.
