Designated Space Policies

Designated Space Policies

 

The Library reserves the right to limit access to and use of designated spaces designed for specific audiences or purposes. Limited use/access areas include the Children’s Room, the Underground, Club 5-6-7,Teen Resource Center, Nature Explorium, Quiet Study and Miller Business Resource Center. The Director is authorized to develop and promulgate guidelines pertaining to the utilization of designated spaces within the Library and to amend such from time to time as deemed appropriate. All such designated spaces policies are to be displayed within the designated premises.

Children’s Services Room

Use of the Children’s Services Room is reserved for children (birth through 8th grade), their parents, caregivers, guardians, adults who work with or on behalf of children, and those receiving special permission by authorized staff.

Miller Business Resource Center

Use of the Miller Business Resource Center is reserved for patrons (14 and older) participating in business, college, career or literacy‐related research and activities.

Nature Explorium

In addition to the rules stated in the Patron Behavior and the Unattended Children Policies, the utilization of the Nature Explorium will have the following restrictions:

Use of the Explorium is reserved for children (birth through 8th grade), their parents, caregivers, guardians and others with special permission by authorized staff.

Middle Country residents are given priority access to the Explorium. If the Explorium becomes overly crowded as determined by the supervising staff member, non-residents will be asked to leave the space.

When special programs are being conducted in the Explorium, access will be limited to those patrons who are registered for the program.

Under extreme weather conditions, the Explorium will be closed at the discretion of Library staff.

Quiet Study

Use of the Quiet Study Room is reserved for individual patrons who require a distraction‐free workspace. Use will be permitted as long as patrons refrain from talking, eating, conducting group study, using electronic equipment or other excessive noises.

Underground, Club 567 and Teen Resource Center

Use of the Underground, Club 567 and Teen Resource Center is reserved for young teens (5th through 8th grade), young adults (8th through 12th grade), those who accompany them and those receiving special permission from authorized staff.
