Services

Barrier Free Access

Disabled parking facilities are designated at both MCPL-Centereach and MCPL-Selden. You must have a disabled parking permit visibly displayed on your automobile to authorize use. Both buildings feature elevators to transport patrons to the book stack areas and meeting rooms.

MCPL-Centereach is equipped with easy access walks, a sliding entrance door, barrier-free rest rooms and an elevator to transport you to the upper and lower book stacks. Patron service counters are placed at appropriate levels for persons using wheelchairs.  A Hearing Loop system has been installed in the Community Room.

MCPL-Selden features access ramps to the Adult and Children’s Reading Room entrances, and barrier-free entrances to all meeting rooms. The Community Room is equipped with an assistive listening system an additional exterior barrier-free entrance/exit is available. Rest rooms are equipped for persons using a wheelchair.
MCPL-Centereach and Selden Adult Department computer stations are equipped with Zoomtext software, adaptive keyboards and mice.

Computer Services

Computer stations
Computers with Internet access and word processing software are available during regular library hours at MCPL-Centereach and Selden buildings in the Adult, Teen and Children’s Departments during regular library hours. The Children’s Department computers are loaded with educational and game software. The Early Childhood Areas have learning games with easy picture menus for preschoolers and their parents. MCPL-Centereach and Selden Adult Department computer stations are equipped with Zoomtext software, adaptive keyboards and mice.

Scanning station
Our Centereach and Selden buildings are each equipped with a scanning station, where documents may be e-mailed, printed or saved on a USB compatible storage device such as a flash drive. Flash drives are available for purchase at the Customer Service Areas.

Printing
Our print management system synchronizes your library card account with your print account. Please see the Customer Service Areas to add funds to your print account. Wireless printing is available from anywhere using any device! Use our Mobile Print Service to send your job, and then release it at any Print Release Terminal in the Centereach or Selden buildings. WiFi: Wireless Internet Access
MCPL provides free wireless Internet access to library users with appropriately equipped and configured laptop computers or portable devices. Wireless Internet access is available at both buildings. Help guides are available for a variety of operating system.

Zoomtext Computer Stations
Stations equipped with a variety of accessible options are available at both buildings. Features include enlarged displays and keyboards; text read aloud software, display color contrast and brightness adjustment, and assistive mouse adapters.

Displays & Exhibits

MCPL-Centereach has exhibits of cultural, artistic and informational interest. Displays are housed in glass cases in the lobby and in the Museum Corner in the Children’s Department. Applications for display cases may be found here and may be requested from any of our Reference Desk staff.

Electric Vehicle Charging

Electric vehicle charging stations are now available at the library’s Centereach and Selden locations. To use the stations to charge an electric vehicle, you will need a Chargepoint account and either the Chargepoint smartphone application or a Chargepoint card. Charging is free for the first two hours and $3.00 per each additional hour. More information on how to use the stations can be found at www.chargepoint.com/support/how-to-charge/.

Fax Services

Fax service is available at the Customer Service Areas in Centereach and Selden at a cost of $0.50 per page faxed in the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean and limited international.

Mailbox Library Service

MCPL provides borrowing privileges via US Mail Postal Authority for residents who have a physical disability that prevents them from visiting the library and are homebound. To be eligible you must have a valid library card and submit an application. Simply call 585-9393 ext. 273 to request materials. Patrons who are part of the Mailbox Library Service program are granted extended loan periods. Click here for Mailbox Library Services Application. The completed application can be submitted at either branch or mailed to MCPL-Centereach.

Meeting Rooms

We have meeting rooms available for use by community groups free of charge. Our Community Room at MCPL-Centereach and our Main Meeting Room at MCPL-Selden are for large groups. MCPL-Selden has three Small Conference Rooms for smaller groups. Meeting Room Application forms are available here or at the Reference Desk. The application form lists regulations for use.

Notary Services

Notary service is available at the Customer Service areas at a cost of $1.00 per signature. At the Centereach building notary services will be available Monday-Friday between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, excluding holidays. At the Selden building, notary service is available every Wednesday between the hours of 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm excluding holidays. The following documents cannot be notarized by library staff: wills, birth or death certificates, documents in languages other than English, documents requiring an electronic signature, documents with photocopied signatures, and deeds. The person seeking to utilize notary services must appear in person and be able to communicate with the notary. Translators are not permitted. The following forms of ID are acceptable to have a document notarized: US driver’s license or non-driver’s ID card, U.S. passport, permanent resident card, or U.S. military ID card.

The library will not provide witnesses, and witnesses will not be solicited from other staff members or patrons using the library. Library notary publics are not attorneys licensed to practice law, and they may not give legal advice. At its discretion, the library reserves the right to decline to provide notary services to any person.

Photocopiers

MCPL-Centereach has photocopy machines located in the Adult and Children’s Services Departments as well as in the lobby. MCPL-Selden has a photocopy machine located in the lobby. The fee is 10 cents per copy. A color copier is available at MCPL-Centereach. The fee is $1.00 per copy. If you have multiple copies to duplicate, ask for assistance at the Reference Desk. Copies may be paid using coins, bills, or print account-enabled library cards.

Spanish Language Outreach Service

A Spanish speaking staff member is on-site to assist patrons who wish to apply for a library card, borrow materials, fill out applications and forms, read instructions and register for programs. Assistance is available in Centereach on Mondays, 10am-6pm; Tuesdays 1pm-9pm; Wednesdays, 10am-9pm; Thursdays, 10am-7:30pm; and Saturdays, 9am-5pm. Assistance is available in Selden on Fridays from 1pm-5pm. If you need assistance in Spanish, please call 631-585-9393 ext.248, leave a message and a librarian will return your call.

Typewriters

MCPL – Centereach and Selden feature self-correcting typewriter stations for your use. The typewriters are especially helpful for completing printed applications neatly. Please bring your own typing paper, if blank sheets are necessary for your composition.
