Annual Message and Budget Information
From the Board of Trustees
We are proud to announce that MCPL has received the prestigious designation as one of thirteen libraries nationwide to have earned 5 stars for ten consecutive years in Library Journal’s Star Libraries. The recognition takes into account patron visits, circulation of materials, programming offerings and internet use. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life for those that we serve within our community, striving for excellent customer service, consistent community engagement and collaborative work with local and national organizations to enrich our community. The library is in a continual state of metamorphosis; as our community and its needs change, library services and programs continue to evolve.
This past year, we’ve added new items to our Library of Things collection, which allows patrons the opportunity to borrow an array of non-traditional library items, developed MCPL Under the Stars, an outdoor entertainment series featuring concerts and movies, created a new art exhibit area for adults and teens in the Centereach building and implemented our monthly program email newsletter. Last year, we developed a library survey to solicit feedback and gauge interests from our patrons. If you haven’t had the opportunity to take the survey, we invite you to take it at www.mcplibrary.org/survey.
Over the summer, more than 200 volunteers crocheted 3,000 circles to adorn two large trees for our Community Art Project, Crochet It! Due to the overwhelming response, we will be working on a new community art project this summer to further beautify the Selden building.
As part of our annual message, we provide a summary of next year’s budget. The proposed 2018/2019 budget reflects a 1.1% increase, which is below the tax cap limitation. Our goal is to continue to provide exemplary service, programs, and resources, remain a steady local employer and as always, be your neighborhood library. We hope that you continue to enjoy all that the library has to offer and we look forward to seeing you throughout the year. Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm.
